Silence
is fuzzy on my tongue
ornate carpet rolled out
for a procession of words half-
formed and wholly desperate
for a fanfare entrance into the world
tacky and stuck
to my teeth sharp edges
and frayed threads caught
before they wrestle
for acknowledgement
permission to exist
hear my every aching
though desire wish wonder dream
sing off-key in my mind
dissonance sounds a lot like deliverance
Outstanding Writing Student Award
Out of my graduating class, I was the sole recipient of this prestigious nomination. This award is presented to a writer with demonstrated outstanding skills and active engagement in the writing community. Writing faculty concurred with glowing recommendation that I was the winner of this award.
Writing & Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to Writing majors who demonstrate leadership on campus and in their fields. The scholarship committee state that "there was unanimous agreement from the scholarship selection committee that your application was the strongest based on all of your leadership accomplishments."
